Accountability – Anchusa Care are registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) who are the independent regulator of all health and social care services in England. This means that we are inspected to ensure that our services are safe, responsive, caring, effective and well led and are held accountable for the quality of the service we deliver.
Community – Anchusa Care are based in Hitchin Town Centre. We love Hitchin because of its strong sense of community and we have developed some great connections with other healthcare professionals and local businesses. We also offer our Dementia Friends Information Sessions to the general public, inspiring others to help those living with dementia live well.
Compassion - Compassion is the response to the suffering of others that motivates a desire to help. Every member of the Anchusa Team has to demonstrate compassion in their interview and throughout their employment with us, in fact we use values based interview questions for all of our care staff to ensure that we only recruit people who demonstrate our values.
Consistency - Consistency of care means low variability in care from Carer to Carer, day to day. High variability among some providers is a major problem for the health care system in the UK. Anchusa work hard to ensure that we select the right care staff, that we retain them through recognition and reward and that we coordinate care in a way that limits the amount of care staff that visit our clients. This means that you or your loved one will have the same Carers who are familiar with your routines and preferences.
Choice – At Anchusa we treat people as equals, ensuring they remain in control of what happens to them. We take time to understand and know the person, their life and past achievements. We ensure that they are fully involved in any decision that affects their care, including personal decisions, such as what to eat, wear or what time to go to bed. This information is gathered during assessment and forms the part of the documentation that guides the care staff on the way that care should be delivered to each individual.
Empathy - Empathy is the experience of understanding another person's condition from their perspective. You place yourself in their shoes and feel what they are feeling. This helps us ensure that we work with our clients in a way that is best for their particular circumstances.
Dignity - Dignity covers all aspects of daily life, including respect, privacy, autonomy and self-worth. While dignity may be difficult to define, what is clear is that people know when they have not been treated with dignity and respect. Dignity is about interpersonal behaviors as well as systems and processes. Anchusa Care are part of the Dignity in Care Network, led by the National Dignity Council and have committed to the 10 point dignity challenge.
Kindness – Listening, feeling and understanding other’s needs and trying to help meet those needs is what kindness means to us at Anchusa Care. Showing kindness can change the tone and feel to an organisation. Kindness begins at the top and permeates throughout everything we do.
Respect - When people receive care through Anchusa Care, all care staff will treat them with dignity and respect at all times. This includes care staff treating them in a caring and compassionate way, facilitating the most suitable means of communication and respecting a person's right to engage or not to engage in communication. Staff respect people's personal preferences, lifestyle and care choices.
The ‘Mum’ test – In October 2014, Andrea Sutcliffe, Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care at the CQC launched making the 'Mum Test' real, CQC’s new model of inspection. Andrea said that she will ask her inspection teams to consider if they would be happy for someone they love and care for to use the services that they were inspecting. Here at Anchusa Care we use the ‘Mum Test’ when we are recruiting. If the person we are interviewing is not good enough for our Mums, then they are not good enough for yours either. All our Carers have to pass the ‘Mum Test’.
